Religious Order: Books

Huh? What's NaNoWriMo? Why it's National Novel Writing Month! During the month of November, all sorts of folks take a shot at writing a novel, with a focus on quantity rather than quality. Knowing that, given the short timeframe, you will be producing crap is supposed to free you from such concerns and just let you write.

I almost tried NaNoWriMo last year, but I was behind on some projects and passed on it.

I'm still behind on projects, but I already committed to a friend that I would do it this year, and so I will.

I've never written a novel. I have written a book. A decade ago, when I lost a shit-load of weight, I did write a book about it. And I tucked it away, knowing that I had no insight on maintaining a healthy weight and also knowing chances were I would gain some back. And I did, about half of which I have re-lost. (Still have about 25 pounds to go, sigh.)

So, I'm both excited and scared for November to start. I have the basic idea of my book down. It's going to be a space opera, with a horny Kirk-esque captain who bangs anything that breathes, and a few things that don't. It'll also involve Lovecraftian Elder Gods, because I want to write some Lovecraftian prose.

If you want to be Writing Buddies, you can add me as TommySaysSoWhat. (I'm still waiting for Punkie to add me back. Taps foot expectantly.) I didn't want to use SexyNuns as my user name as that would raise expectations which I don't intend to meet. (Maybe next year I'll write Sexy Red-Headed Nuns from Outer Space. Maybe not.)

I'll post status updates here. But I probably won't post portions of the book in progress. But, whatever steaming pile of manure exists at the end of the month, I will post here. I'll even post an ePub version, for your eReader. This I swear!

(If your eReader doesn't support ePub, well, what can I tell you. You bought the wrong one. :)

I promise that since I dragged you into it (and believe me, it's not easy given our height and weight differences), I will hold your hand (figuratively, K...don't hurt me!) during the month. Still no catsuit photos though.

Can't wait to read your story! I've never shown anyone the 2 I finished for NaNo. :}

Why not? You should let me read them. I'll print them out and read them while holding a big red pen!

I actually had a boss who had me do that. His friend had written a book and he wanted me to go through it and provide suggestions.

It was just awful. Really hard to spin it in some sort of constructive way.

"This manuscript just needs one final touch. A lit match."

"Lit match"...LOL! and ouch! I'll bet the boss and his friend took that well.

Yeah, Big Red Pen is a very reassuring thought; now you'll never get to see any of my stories. Not unless you're in my sci-fi writing class.

This is going to be soooooo fun.

I'm adding you as a writing buddy right now.

I'll be adding a new NaNo-related post to my blog later tonight. http://myaccidentalmuse.wordpress.com

I hope it'll be fun. I'm still scared.

Hooray!

I'll keep my eyes peeled. (Ahhhhrrghghhh! That hurts!)
